The venues, and their stories
Old buildings. Good stories.
The Clay Pit sits in the Bertram Building, which the restaurant calls "170 years old" and "a storied stop on Austin's haunted tours." It began as a general store, then a saloon.
The Driskill has stood on Sixth and Brazos since 1886. The city's ghost-tour operators tell its stories; the hotel itself tells its history.
The Tavern has stood at Twelfth and Lamar since 1916 and tells its own ghost story. Moonshine sits in the 1880s Waterloo settlement, and the downtown ghost walk leaves from its door.
Scholz Garten has poured since 1866: no ghost, only the oldest beer garden in the state. The Capital Grille's building is over a century old; the Driskill Grill is the hotel's own dining room.
